Conference preparations
Papers will be discussed within the three theme groups, to which successful applicants have been allocated. Each participant will present their paper, which will subsequently be discussed by the whole group. The paper should be around 3,000 - 4,000 words and be sent to Christoph Raatz by e-mail by Monday, 8.05.2000. It will subsequently be circulated to the other participants and senior scholars.

We will provide funding for a return economy class airfare for a direct flight to Athens from an airport nearest to the participant. In addition, the project will cover accommodation, meals and travel from Athens to Corfu return.
To claim your travel expenses, you must obtain a receipt for the purchase of your ticket and pass this on to Christoph Raatz at the Workshop.
Please note that we will not cover any of the following costs:
- Any taxi fares or other expenses incurred during the trip to / from Athens airport;
- Travel between the international and domestic terminals at Athens airport.
- Incidental expenses for travel within Corfu other than the shuttle service provided between the hotel, airport and the Achilleon Palace.
- Any meals, snacks, drinks, refreshment other than those listed in the itinerary.
- Any incidental expenses incurred at the hotel, such as phone calls, bar drinks, etc.
Arrival in Athens and transfer to Corfu
We have booked the flight OA 606 with Olympic Airways at 17:45 on Friday, 19.05. All participants should arrange to arrive in Athens during the afternoon of Friday, 19.05. if possible. You are expected to make your own way to the domestic (West) terminal at Athens airport where Christoph Raatz will be available from 16:30 onwards at the Olympic Airways check-in desk to issue tickets to Corfu. The return flight to Corfu will be on Tuesday, 23.05., flight OA 601 departing Corfu at 06:20, arriving in Athens at 07:15.
We have booked for you a single en-suite bedroom for the period from Friday, 19.05.00 - Monday, 22.05.00 inclusive. The booking includes breakfast and dinner buffets. Please note that there are no Workshop sessions planned for the afternoon of Sunday, 21.05. You may of course enjoy the hotel's breakfast and dinner as usual. However, should you wish not to, please notify Christoph Raatz as soon as possible.

The hotel has available for the use of all conference participants:
A tennis court Sea-water swimming pool Split-level restaurant with panoramic view Cocktail lounge.
For electrical appliances, Corfu is fitted with Southern European (220V) two pin plugs.
Personal spending money Participants are advised to bring with them (or change on first arrival) sufficient Greek currency to cover their anticipated needs, since the programme does not allow free time for visits to banks during their opening hours. Travellers' cheques are exchangeable at the hotel, but you may find that the rate of exchange and/or the commission are unfavourable. You should not attempt to bring letters of credit or bankers' drafts.
Please note that neither personal cheques nor bankers' drafts can under any circumstances be exchanged by the conference organisers.
Recognised credit cards are widely useable in retail outlets throughout Greece but you may find that some outlets make a small handling charge.
Participants are strongly advised to make arrangements in advance of their departure to insure their personal effect for the full period of absence from home. Neither the conference organisers nor any of the conference venues or hotels can entertain claims against loss or damage of personal property.
Health / medical insurance Participants are advised to ensure that they have adequate medical insurance to cover the period of the conference. We will not be able to cover participants for sickness or injuries of any kind.
Addresses for urgent messages
You may use the hotel addresses for any urgent messages (there may be a small charge by the hotel for handling incoming faxes).
Food
All menus are being chosen to cater for a variety of tastes and dietary requirements. However, if you have any special requirements (e.g. allergies, religious diet), please be sure to let Christoph Raatz know before your arrival.
Conference venues
All sessions will take place at the Achilleon Palace.
Dress
The whole workshop will be held in an informal environment. ^
